Preparing for Rotation

Whether this is the first time you’ve ever experienced rotation or even if you’re more of an experienced player with several years under your belt and you’ve become more accustomed to it, the way rotation makes us feel as Magic players differs from person to person.

I myself have had an amazing time since the release of Theros, and it just happened to be the set that was newly released when I first picked up Magic: the Gathering. The Theros block itself will always have some sentimental value to me as I was discovering those cards along with my friends who also had recently started playing.

I will admit, I’m sad to see the Theros block and M15 go, however, this marks the beginning of a new era for us as Magic players and I’m sure Battle for Zendikar will not disappoint us. Unfortunately, all we can do is wave a final farewell to all of our old favorites and watch as they make way for whatever Wizards has in store for us in the next set.

Dealing with rotation can be frustrating, especially when it comes to building a new deck from scratch and watching some of your collection tank in price. Then again, we’ll soon have new, fresh and interesting ideas to work with and the Standard format will receive a much needed overhaul.

As a Standard player, I already can’t wait to see what the next set will bring but that doesn’t mean I won’t be sad to see a lot of cards become memories of the past and like a lot of cards that came before them, never see the light of day again.

See rotation as a phoenix coming to the end of it’s life cycle and exploding into a cloud of smoldering ash and then from the remains, something new and incredible may be born.

In conclusion, rotation will effect everyone from casual players to those who live on the tournament circuit. However, there is a small period of time which always gets me excited and that’s watching everyone brew something new. Before the new break-out decks reach the likes of the Internet, there is that space in time where you can really let your imagination run wild and build something crazy.

Make the most of the time that lies ahead of us and have some fun before it’s time to get serious again!
